How do I use the StreetTongue app?
Download StreetTongue from the App Store or Google Play Store, create an account, and select your city. The app starts you with core greetings and everyday phrases. Each phrase includes audio from a local speaker, pronunciation scoring so you can compare your accent, and cultural context explaining when and where to use it. Work through categories at your own pace. Use flashcard review to retain what you have learned and scripted conversations to practice real exchanges.
How does pronunciation scoring work?
When you tap the microphone and speak a phrase, StreetTongue records your audio and compares it against the target pronunciation using speech recognition technology. You receive a score from 0 to 100 along with specific feedback on which sounds need work. The system evaluates tone, rhythm, and individual sounds. Free users get 3 pronunciation checks per day. Pro users get 30 per day. Max and Lifetime users get unlimited checks. Pronunciation scoring requires an internet connection because it uses external speech recognition infrastructure.
What are the pricing plans?
StreetTongue has four plans, and all 18 cities (current and future) are included on every one, including Free. Free: 500+ phrases across all categories, 3 pronunciation checks per day, flashcard review, cultural tips, and grammar review. Pro ($11.99/month or $79.99/year): full phrase practice, conversations, translator, listening, 30 pronunciation checks a day, 10 AI conversations a month, and 5 custom AI scenarios a month. Max ($24.99/month or $159.99/year): everything in Pro with unlimited pronunciation feedback, unlimited AI conversations, and unlimited custom scenarios. Lifetime ($229.99 one-time): everything in Max, unlimited, forever, with one payment and no subscription ever again. Pro and Max are subscriptions. Lifetime is a one-time purchase. How do I cancel or get a refund?
All paid plans are purchased through Apple or Google in-app purchase. To cancel a Pro or Max subscription, use the subscription management tools in the App Store (iOS Settings) or Google Play Store (Android). Cancellation stops future billing but does not refund the current period. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google directly; contact them through their respective support channels. Lifetime is a one-time purchase with nothing to cancel. If you have a specific issue, email support@streettongueapp.com and we will help. See our Terms of Service for full details.
How do I delete my account and data?
You can delete your account two ways. In the app: go to Settings, then tap Delete Account. By email: send a request to support@streettongueapp.com or privacy@streettongueapp.com. We complete deletion requests within 30 days. Deletion removes your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy. Please note that account deletion does not entitle you to a refund for previous purchases.
The app isn't recognizing my speech, or my scores seem wrong. What should I try?
Start with these steps. Make sure you have granted StreetTongue microphone permission in your device settings. Speak at a normal volume in a quiet environment. Background noise can interfere with speech recognition. Hold your phone 6 to 12 inches from your mouth. Make sure you have a stable internet connection, as pronunciation scoring requires server communication. Try closing and reopening the app. If scores still seem off, try recording yourself with your phone voice memo app and comparing your audio to the target phrase. Some sounds are genuinely difficult and may take practice. If the problem persists after trying these steps, email support@streettongueapp.com with your device model, OS version, and a description of what is happening.
I bought a plan in the app, but my features aren't showing up.
In-app purchases can occasionally take a few minutes to sync. First, make sure you are logged into the app with the same account you used to purchase. Try pulling down to refresh on the app home screen or closing and reopening the app. If your purchase still does not appear after 15 minutes, email support@streettongueapp.com with your purchase confirmation and the email address you use in the app. We will resolve it manually, usually within a few hours.
